Function and Mission of the Department

Stevens County Emergency Management, made up of the Fire Department and Ambulance Service, has one overall main purpose.  That purpose is to have our community prepared for emergencies and disasters by reducing harmful effects of all hazards using preparedness, response, mitigation and recovery.

The Stevens County Fire Department is made up of four officers and additional volunteer firefighters.  Our volunteers are dedicated and meet for training and practice drills twice a month.  The department provides fire and rescue protection for all of Stevens County including the cities of Hugoton and Moscow.  Our mission is to preserve and protect property, extinguish all fires and provide specialized rescue equipment and personnel to assist the Ambulance Service.

The Stevens County Ambulance Service is made up of two officers, and additional EMT (Emergency Medical Technician) volunteers and AEMT (Advanced Emergency Medical Technician) volunteers.  We provide BLS (Basic Life Support) and ALS (Advanced Life Support), pre-hospital emergency medical care and inter-facility transfers.  Our goal is to provide a rapid response with the highest quality of pre-hospital patient care for all the citizens of Stevens County as well as all that travel through the county.
