COMMISSIONERS PROCEEDINGS 5-24-19 SPECIAL MEETING

COMMISSIONERS PROCEEDINGS
MAY 24, 2019

Agenda:          8:30 – Jonathan Ross Sullivan – Employment

8:45 – Bills

The Board of County Commissioners met in a special meeting with all members present.  Also present were Amy Jo Tharp, County Clerk and RoGlenda Coulter with the Hugoton Hermes. Tron called the meeting to order.  Pat moved to approve the county vouchers.  Joe seconded.  Motion carried.  The Clerk was instructed to draw warrants on the Treasurer chargeable to the various funds of the county for the following amounts:

General  $                571.44
Fire  $                  48.70
 $                620.14

Rex Evans checked in and expressed his regret for turning in his two (2) week notice.  He said he is willing to train the new employee.

Jonathan Ross Sullivan, a previous applicant, was called in by the commissioners for another interview for the Courthouse Facilities Supervisor position Rex is vacating.  The commissioners accepted his application and asked when he could begin work.  Ross said he needs to give his current employer a two (2) week notice but could begin immediately and work some hours during the morning/afternoon as his current employment is in the evenings.  The commissioners had him get his paperwork and clock in today to begin training.

Amy Jo and Rex suggested the idea of hiring a temporary part time position for the summer months to help with the lawn care and Memorial Hall as it can get to be quite taxing.  Rex did say it would only be about ten (10) hours a month unless more could be established for the temporary help.  The commissioners at this time do not feel a temporary position would be beneficial and determined that some overtime may be necessary in order to complete summer responsibilities.

Rex talked about the lawn maintenance he does for the Library, Sheriff Department and Courthouse as well as janitorial and Memorial Hall duties.

Tron stated he didn’t feel it was in the best interest of the taxpayers if taxpayer dollars went to the Foundation fund and the Foundation board used it for certain entities that already receive county funds.  Joe agreed and said the Foundation board needs to get their tax situation figured out.

Discussion incurred regarding procedural and communication issues between the EMS Director, EMS Medical Director and Hospital staff.  The commissioners decided that one of them should attend the next hospital board meeting to discuss the issue further.

By motion, the Board adjourned.

Attest: Amy Jo Tharp, County Clerk
